We launched our Dog Park wallpaper this week, and it's a product that's very near and dear to our hearts. Dogs are a huge part of our lives here at H&W, and we'd talked about doing a dog design for a long time. When we were planning our new collection with Julia Rothman, a fellow dog lover, we decided that it was high time we created something to celebrate how awesome dogs are.
Here's Christiana and Blaze (or Blazey as we affectionately called her). Blazey was a total sweetie pie of a dog. She used to love hiking with us in the canyons near our houses, and was an all around great companion. We still miss her.
And here I am with my childhood dog, Mikee. She was a toy poodle and because she was my parents' first baby, she was never super fond of me or my sister.
Okay, maybe it was partly my fault... Even though she was pretty fiesty and not overly friendly, we still loved her.
Fast forward to 1999 when my husband and I brought this lady home. Maggie, a black lab border collie mix, was in all respects the perfect dog. She was sweet, smart, athletic, loyal and we adored her.
Here she is playing swim fetch with Jackson, which was probably her most favorite thing to do in the entire world. Maggie was with us through many moves (Chicago, Florida, San Jose, Columbus and Minneapolis) and the births of both of the boys. We lost her to cancer in 2010, but not a day goes by that we don't talk about her. And my husband still says "Good night, Maggie" right before we fall asleep at night.
This little weirdo came into our lives in 2007 when I went to an adoption event while my husband was away on a business trip. I'd always wanted a pug or a corgi, and Wade just happens to be a mix of those two dogs. Wade is a total character with a lot of funny quirks and we thoroughly enjoy his "unique" personality.
And he indulges Christiana's and my hobby of sending dumb Wade selfies to each other, so he's got that going for him.
Margot has been a part of our family since 2011 - the rescue thought that she was a Catahoula Leopard Dog Australian Shepard mix, and we like to joke that she thinks she's a cat.
What dog sits and sleeps on stair risers, or drapes herself over the arm of a chair to rest? In order to remind us that she's actually a dog, one of her favorite pastimes is barking. She, like Wade, is pretty quirky, but we love her to pieces.
And that brings us to the baby of the family, Winter. She's been with us since 2013 and was probably the cutest puppy in the history of the world.
Even when she was being unbelievably naughty.
Winter is a true dog's dog unlike our other two. She's a fantastic swimmer and wishes we could just move to the cabin full time. She adores the boys and is a total sweetheart to everyone.ÃÂ And her ears are possibly the softest things on the face of the earth.
Thanks for letting us gush about our dogs! We sent photos of our doggies, and Julia incorporated them into the pattern when she designed Dog Park, so know you know a little more of the back story :) We decided to donate all of the profits from Dog Park to Copper's Dream rescue in San Francisco and Midwest Animal Rescue here in Minneapolis to help dogs find loving homes. We can't think of a better way to celebrate all of the dogs who have brought so much happiness and love into our lives.
