Daydream Orange Dining Room Before and After

We've seen a lot of really fun before and afters over the summer so thought we'd do a quick round-up of some favorites. It's always really striking to us to see a room from the same angle pre and post-wallpaper! None more so than Kevin Masse's Daydream (Orange) dining room where everything stayed the same, but the wall. Isn't it amazing how much adding some pattern to a room can change its feel? We just love how this pattern makes the room warmer and really adds personality.

Mermaids Gold Bathroom Before and After

Mermaids Gold in a Bathroom Nook

This Mermaids (Gold) bathroom makeover was also a stunner. Designed by Camila Pavone of Effortless Style Blog, we love the black and gold pattern with touches of pink!

Daydream Black Bathroom Before and After

Another bathroom makeover by Brittany Hayes of Addison's Wonderland made our Daydream (in Black) come true. Love the graphic colorway mixed with rustic wood and all that gorgeous tile. See more here!

Quilt Cayenne Bar and Restaurant Before and After

Next time we're in Omaha, our first stop will be to Mercury for some cocktails with our Quilt (Cayenne) wallpaper. The charming space was designed by Birdhouse Design Studio and we love the unexpected mix of materials.

Before & After: Spring Roundup

We've been seeing some really fun before and after projects lately and thought we'd share a few here! First up is this beautiful trailer makeover by Beau and Matt of Probably This!

Before & After: Spring Roundup

We love how they used our Rose Dancers wallpaper as a shout out to Rosie. Fox, the pup, seems to love it too. (Images via @probablythis)

Before & After: Spring Roundup

And we almost fainted when we saw Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey, along with the Mean Girls cast posing with our Andanza (Blush) Removable wallpaper tiles. (Image via @erikahenningsen)

Before & After: Spring Roundup

The is the dressing room of the two Mean Girls stars, Taylor Louderman (Regina) and Erika Henningson (Cady).

Before & After: Spring Roundup

Pictured above with the designer Stephanie Cain. She chose the removable tiles because they weren't allowed to do anything permanent on the walls, and we think they worked out perfectly! We're so excited to go see the show - more on all this later!

Before & After: Spring Roundup

We loved this Daydream (Sunshine) project as a quick and easy way to add some dreaminess to a kid's room. (Images via @onrepetition)

And we were so excited to bump into Jenna and Brandon's Peonies Copper bathroom makeover on both Design Sponge and the Today Show blog! (Images via @forrichardorpoorer)

Such a beautiful space!

Before & After: Spring Roundup

This Mermaids (Gold) transformation had our hearts a flutter! It's pretty amazing to see what just a pop of pattern can add to a space. Especially of the black and gold and mermaid all over variety :)

The wallpaper install was so good by @jonespnp in the bathroom of @xobakes. We love! Stay salty!

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

April 05, 2018

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

Back before the days of Hygge & West, Aimee worked in marketing strategy at Target, where she met Ta?mora Furhmann. The two were fast friends who bonded over their shared obsession with Orla Kiely bags and, well, really anything with pattern on it. Even then, Ta?mora was - and still is - a huge wallpaper lover, and she and Aimee would spend their lunch breaks talking about the wallpapers Ta'mora was currently using. (Ta'mora also has an amazing upholstery contact in her hometown that Aimee admits she totally would have poached if it wasn?t just a bit too far to drive with a couch sticking out of her car!)

Today, Ta'mora works in Brand Design at General Mills. Sweet, endlessly lovely, and with a great eye for pattern, Ta'mora is one of the people Aimee's most misses working with from her Target days. So when Aimee heard that Ta'mora was updating her bathroom with a little help from Hygge & West, we knew we had to get the scoop. Check out the before and after, below, of this incredible bathroom transformation!

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

Hygge & West: We're head-over-heels for your bathroom renovation! What were your goals for this redesign and what inspired it?

Ta'mora Furhmann: It all started with a couple of loose tiles in our shower. At first, the plan was to simply fix them and move on, but the project quickly spiraled into a total bathroom makeover. Our old space wasn?t terrible, but it certainly wasn?t our style and was very expected.

My primary goal was to infuse some much-needed personality into the space that reflected our style. It was also important for me to figure out a way to open the space to make the room feel larger, while creating a bathroom that worked for our family (we have two young boys).

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

Inspiration came naturally. I have a pretty distinct style that shows up in many facets of my life. I typically get an idea and continue to build on it naturally without much of a plan or inspiration. My starting point for this project was the flooring. I have been swooning over the idea of using encaustic cement tiles for the last decade but didn?t have the budget to import them. I love that this material is finally being embraced within the US!

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

H&W: Our Daydream (Sunshine) shower curtain makes an appearance in your new space, adding a touch of color to the otherwise classic black and white design. Why did you select this pattern and colorway, and what do you think it adds to your bathroom? Why was it important to bring in some color?

TF: I love color and as our bathroom design started taking shape, it began to look very black and white. While I appreciate the simplicity of tonal or dual-tone design, my style is far too eclectic to support such restraint. I?ve tried ? it doesn?t work for me.

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

I knew I needed to find a shower curtain to liven up the space and open the door for other colorful design elements. I remembered that H&W recently entered the textile game and was thrilled to see that there were so many amazing patterns that would work in the space. It really was the perfect fit.

The sun print was one that I had purchased at Serena and Lily years ago and thought of it the second I opened the package from H&W. It had been hiding in our lower level powder room and I was so excited to finally put it in a place it deserves. I couldn?t have dreamt up a better match.

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

H&W: Daydream isn't the only pattern to appear in your design - those floors are stunning! What was the incentive behind a bold, patterned floor, and how did you ensure it played well with the others patterns and elements in the space?

TF: The idea of a patterned floor was my starting point for the project and the design element I spent the most amount of time choosing. There are so many beautiful patterns available that it was difficult to choose. I ended up with the aikido pattern designed by Victoria Larson for Cle Tile. I loved that it felt so unique (I had never seen it before) and how the tile created different patterns depending on the angle.

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

Because the floor came first, it was less about it playing well with others and more about others playing nice with it. I focused on keeping the surrounding elements simple ? white vanity and tile, cream walls, etc. ? and was thoughtful about where and when to infuse more pattern, limiting it to the shower curtain, knobs, and towels. The gold hardware was a splurge but added some necessary warmth and personality to the space.

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

H&W: Do you have any advice, tips, or tricks for using pattern in a smaller space that you learned from this redesign (or elsewhere)?

TF: Don?t be afraid. So many people are scared to incorporate pattern into their spaces and default to solids instead. If you see something that speaks to you, go for it. If it?s a small space, start with one design element. Restraint (although not always my strength) and balance are key. For me, I had to choose between floors or a statement wall in this room. As much as I would love to have both in my home, I knew I had to choose.

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

H&W: Here at H&W, we're huge pattern lovers - and it's clear that you are too! What is it that you like about pattern? What do you think it brings to a home that other elements can't?

TF: Wow, you guys are on to me - I am a HUGE pattern lover. I always have been. Always. It?s something that makes me happy and, when used in the right way, brings a wonderful sense of ease and optimism to any space. I seem to be drawn to patterns that have a certain level of whimsy to them - the ones that straddle the line of being sophisticated and childish all at the same time.

For me, patterns bring a unique level of energy that reflects the personality of our family and the home we?ve built. It welcomes people in a way that nothing else can and makes guests immediately feel comfortable and at home.

Before & After: Ta'mora Furhmann

P.S. Talk about crafty! Ta'mora's son, Henri, put his creativity to work and turned the shipping box from our shower curtain into a cozy home for his mouse, Mike. All this mouse house needs now is some H&W wallpaper!
