Getting To Know You: H&W Customers Share Their Homes
In honor of #GetToKnowYourCustomersDay today, we chatted with three of our loyal and uber-stylish customers about why they chose Hygge & West and took a peek inside their homes (and lives!). Keep scrolling for some H&W in the wild...

Hygge & West: Where do you live?
Karin Olson: Minneapolis, Minnesota
H&W: How did you find Hygge & West?
KO: I met Aimee and Christiana through mutual friends, and the rest is history! I couldn’t wait to own a house so I could start experimenting more with wallpaper and pattern in general.
H&W: Why did you pick each of the patterns you used, and how did it change the feeling in the room?
KO: Well, it mostly wasn’t very glamorous processes. The first pattern I chose was Raindrops (Ceramic), in removable tile form. When we first bought our house, I was a little overwhelmed with every inch of 4200+ square feet needing renovation. So, I started small—like really small—with the tiny nook at the landing of our staircase, which must have been created during renovations over 30 years ago. It was bare walls and plywood floors. We didn’t have a child yet, but I dreamed of it being a magical hideout for little ones. I found the carpet tiles I wanted to use, and Raindrops was an obvious complement. That “secret nook” remains the favorite spot of many who visit our home—and kids of all ages spend hours in there! Dream come true.
Originally a friend suggested Pineapple in Ebony to coordinate with our 1930’s-era powder room with the old mint green tile with black trim. We ended up needing to gut that room completely and start from scratch, but we were already attached to the idea of Pineapples, and we love how it works with the room, the light, and some art we already had. Together it feels like a modern homage to the home when it was originally built in 1919. I can’t remember a guest coming over and not commenting on that wallpaper. It just makes it a special place.
Foret (Midnight) was an easy choice. I’ve always loved the pattern, with its nod to nature (I like to think we’re kind of in nature within the city) and what we see as a bit of a Nordic vibe (lots of that in our ancestry.) Also, we wanted a smallish print in the entryway, where people can notice the detail since they are naturally close to the walls going in and out the front door. It just came down to which colorway, and Midnight worked best with everything else we had going on in the front half of the house. It made an immediate difference in the feeling of the house—it’s like a little jeweled area that sets a fun tone as we welcome and say goodbye to people.

H&W: Where do you live?
Marissa McCartan: Whitefish Bay, WI
H&W: How did you find Hygge & West?
MM: I first learned about Hygge & West when I was shopping in an Anthropologie store. I saw a roll of the Pineapple wallpaper in Yellow, loved it, and the rest is history! A year later, I bought the Pineapple wallpaper in Sorbet and wallpapered my dining room.
H&W: Why did you pick Pineapple (Ebony) and Rosa (Indigo), and how did it change the feeling in the room?
MM: We recently moved in April, and I knew I wanted to put the Pineapple wallpaper into our new house somewhere, because I had received so many compliments on it in our last house. I decided to go with the Ebony colorway because I wanted to do something different and it is perfect for the little nook in our dining room. The dark wallpaper is the perfect contrast for the stark white buffet that is in front of it. The Pineapple wallpaper has the perfect amount of whimsy and charm, and adds a focal point to the dining room! I then found these fun and whimsical chairs at Anthropologie! My husband and I spent four years living in Miami, so we love bringing a bit of Florida nostalgia to our Midwest home.
I’ve had my eye on the Rosa Indigo wallpaper for years! I absolutely love everything about the pattern and colors. I can only explain it as love at first sight! The very first decision I made about decorating our new house was that I knew I wanted this wallpaper on the huge wall behind our cream Chesterfield sofa. We already had a huge blue ottoman that matched it perfectly. I wanted the living room to be as feminine and girly as possible, while still feeling traditional and classic. I am a mom of five (yes, FIVE) young boys, so I need pink and flowers in my house anywhere I can get it! The wallpaper is such a great statement in the room, and gives it the perfect mix of modern and old world charm.

H&W: How did you find Hygge & West?
CLA: We originally picked Hygge & West wallpaper for our master bathroom. I think the internet search to find "Forest Floor in Ebony" was something along the lines of "awesome wallpaper" and you all appeared. We love your bold patterns!
H&W: Why did you pick the Bengal Sunrise mural, and how did it change the feeling in the room?
CLA: With the upcoming birth of our second child, we needed to move our oldest son upstairs and hoped to create a fun, new space that he would love. Everett's stuffed giraffe, Betsy, was the inspiration. Instead of picking a repetitive jungle print, we decided to go big with the Bengal Sunrise mural. It looks awesome and really makes the room!
